The flat-rate amounts for the additional meal expenses vary depending on the country. Separate amounts are even set for particularly expensive cities. The flat rates are derived from the Federal Travel Expenses Act (Bundesreisekostengesetz) and are reissued by the Federal Ministry of Finance (Bundesfinanzministerium) from time to time.

For each full day of absence, the country-specific meal allowance is 120% and on days with an absence of more than 8 hours as well as on arrival and departure days, 80% of the highest daily allowances abroad.
